12 Signs You Lack Clarity – Why You Need It

Have you ever felt ‘lost’ with your life? Perhaps the reason is you lack clarity to go after what you truly desire.

Clarity is essential for achieving your goals and living a fulfilling life. When you lack clarity, you may experience frustration, indecision, lack of motivation, and other negative emotions. Before you can begin, it’s important to identify the root-causes for lacking clarity.

Fortunately, there are ways to overcome obstacles to gain clarity in life; see if you identify with any of these so you can get started making needed changes.

Here are 12 signs you lack clarity in your life:

  1. Frustration – One of the signs that you’re lacking clarity is feeling frustrated. You may feel like you’re working hard, but you’re not making progress, or you’re unsure what to do next. To overcome frustration, take a step back and evaluate your situation. Ask yourself if you’re clear about your goals and what steps to take to achieve them. If not, take some time to clarify your goals and create a plan of action.
  2. Indecision – You may feel like you’re unable to choose between multiple options, or you’re not sure what direction to take. Most people are either afraid of making the ‘wrong’ decision or living with the consequences. To overcome indecision, gather more information and weigh the pros and cons of each option. Consider what’s most important and which option aligns with your values and goals.
  3. Not Knowing Where to Begin – If you’re unsure where to begin, it could be a sign that you lack clarity. This is overwhelming, but breaking things down into smaller steps is key, ala the kaizen method. Start by identifying the first step you must take, then focus on that one task and doing it until it becomes a habit. Once you complete it, move on to the next step with the same system.
  4. Not Trusting Your Decisions – When you lack clarity, you may second-guess your decisions leading to a lack of trust in yourself and your abilities. To overcome this, take the time to reflect on your values and goals. Make decisions that align with these, and trust that you’re making the right choices.
  5. Being Unproductive or Procrastinating – If you’re feeling unproductive or find yourself procrastinating, it could be a sign that you lack clarity. Identifying and addressing the root cause of your procrastination is essential. Is it because you don’t know where to begin or are unsure what steps to take next? Once you identify the cause, take steps to overcome it.
  6. Inconsistent Effort – Inconsistent effort to achieve your goals can be a sign that you lack clarity. This could be due to not having a clear plan or not being clear about your goals. To overcome this, create a plan with specific, measurable goals and action steps. Track your progress and adjust as needed.
  7. Lack of Motivation – When you lack clarity, you may feel unmotivated and uninspired. To overcome this, take some time to reflect on your values and goals. Reconnect with your “why” and remind yourself of the bigger picture. Break down everything into smaller, manageable steps, and celebrate your progress.
  8. Overwhelm and Burnout – Feeling overwhelmed and burned out can be a signal, too. It’s essential to discover the cause of this overwhelm and take steps to address it. This could include delegating tasks, saying no to commitments that don’t align with your goals, or taking time for self-care.
  9. Feeling Stuck – If you’re feeling stuck, it could indicate that you lack clarity. Take some time to reflect on what’s holding you back. Is it a lack of knowledge or resources, or are you unsure what steps to take? Once you identify the root cause, take steps to overcome it. Action overrides indecision, no matter how small the steps may be.
  10. Low energy – Identifying and addressing the root cause of your low energy is vital. This could include getting more rest, eating a healthier diet, or reducing stress. Taking care of your physical health also positively impacts your mental clarity and focus.
  11. Decreased Focus and Concentration – When you lack clarity, you may struggle to focus and concentrate on tasks. This could be due to feeling overwhelmed or not knowing where to begin. To overcome this, break tasks into smaller, manageable steps, focusing on one thing at a time. Create a distraction-free environment and give yourself regular breaks to recharge.
  12. Negative Self-Talk -If you don’t know where you’re going, it’s hard to stay positive. To overcome this, practice positive self-talk and affirmations. Focus on your strengths and achievements and remind yourself that you’re capable of achieving your goals; write them down daily so you can remind yourself of past accomplishments to overcome any negative self-talk.

So, how did you do? A lack of clarity manifests itself in many ways. By identifying any of these signs, you can then take steps to gain greater clarity and move forward in any/all areas of your life. With clarity and focus, anything is possible (be sure to entertain them).

“If there is clarity about your plans, more often than not, you will be able to execute your plans.” (Jasprit Bumrah)

It’s March Fourth and Do Something Day

Today is March Fourth and Do Something Day (I said there are celebrations for everything) and, since we’re in this first week of March, what are your plans for what you want the next 31 days to look like? Now is the time to make new plans, new goals, new thresholds for what you want in your business. I like the premise of doing something you’ve not done before – challenging yourself- with the idea of marching forward. They both go together wonderfully:

  1. What is on your ‘to do’ or bucket list? What did you say you would do in those resolutions a couple months back? What are you feeling you need more of are ready to do? Answering these questions will help you to make a decision on a specific action you want to accomplish by March 31
  2. Start with choosing one of those (not to overwhelm) and write it out very specifically, i.e. I will be in my new job as an IT software developer by March 31. What this does is create a visual on the goal, which the brain will latch on to and want to achieve it, as well as giving it a deadline. The more specific we are, the more compelling it becomes and then we will seek out the ways to get it.
  3. Write out every possible action you would need to take to get that goal accomplished; this is not about limiting but about every possibility out there – this is where you may need to ‘leap’ and stretch in what those may be. Work backwards from March 31 (you with a successful team or business), thinking of what it took to get there; this will really expand the creative side of the brain to come up with ideas you might not think of in a conscious state (left side).
  4. Armed now with a goal and specific steps to take, make the leap; decide what time you will make it to hold yourself accountable and get mentally prepared. Then, begin. It may feel a bit scary at first but the more you, the easier it will become and the faster results you will see.

The key to any of these is taking action and doing something that, while it may feel uncomfortable, will move you achieving your business goals.   Ensuring you have a good mindset is the driver for all behavior and goal-achievement, so take time each morning to create a positive mindset – say gratitude, have goals, use positive self-talk, breathe to energize your brain, and affirm your intentions. Practicing this daily will create a new habit that will lead to your success.

What is a Mindset Coach Anyway?

As a Mindset and Performance Coach, a lot of people don’t understand exactly what this means or the benefit one can provide. Hiring a coach, whether executive, business, wellness, etc. is an investment you make in improving some area of your life, or those of others.

While those are definitely needed, the fundamental reason for all behavior starts in the mind. A difficult employee, a business leader who is unproductive or scattered, or putting off exercising in an effort to lose weight all have their basis with what goes on in the mind. So, this is where a mindset coach is beneficial.

A mindset coach will set you on the right course; they will help you dig deeper into your thoughts and fears – yes, fears – that you’ve been struggling with, perhaps all your life as fears don’t just arise. They have deep-rooted places that started somewhere early on. Thoughts are embedded deep in the reptilian brain but can come out at any time. They lead to our beliefs which drive our actions, thus, the way you react to situations or that you keep eating that piece of cake, even though you know you shouldn’t.

A mindset coach uses principles of psychology and neuroscience to guide you in banishing mental blocks once and for all, helping you to understand that their are biological, physiological, and psychological processes going on, some of which you don’t have control of. This understanding is where self-awareness comes in which, then, is when change can occur.

If you have ever had an idea that you want to move forward on but didn’t, there is a reason for that. You’re fight or flight response went off releasing cortisol, which goes directly to your prefrontal cortex and shuts it down, leading to feeling foggy, disorganized, or freezing up; “I don’t know” becomes the common answer to why you did not move forward.

A mindset coach, who understands the brain, and its effects on the body and performance, is able to help you understand your reactions and then how to positively manage them. They help you to take control of them so you know can be more successful overall.

If you’re struggling in your business, a mindset coach can be the answer. You can have all the best systems and processes, funnels, and the like but, if you aren’t acting on them for whatever reason, it’s time to deal with your mindset. A coach can be your answer.

If you have been struggling, then it’s time to finally overcome. It’s time to soar to newer heights, to grow your business so it’s profitable and, ultimately, lead a happier and successful life.
